Year 2013 Epilogue

In years 1978 to 1979, the Chinese ancient metaphor quote " alt 1 " (the happy uncle to evaluate the horse or Mr. Ma) and the policy " alt 2 " (respect knowledge and respect talent) were well known (ref. " alt 3 ", bachelor toward master ). Science and language competitions were conducted by teachers to encourage the students. Since then, the author has always believed that there is happy uncle to evaluate the outstanding talent. The examination and recommendation of students for college and postgraduate research were good examples. The author has recognized and encouraged talents to the best of his ability ever since. He also wrote letters and articles that gave correct description or evaluation of foreign places. However, the public media's evaluation of Chinese traditions in comparison to the foreign countries was at first deviated towards the capitalist developed countries from 1979 to 1984, and then lacking. The famous Chinese song " alt 4 " etc. (the east is red, the sun rises, Mao ZeDong came out of China etc.) indicates that the China going abroad countryside man is like Chairman Mao, and the communist - party ( alt 5 ) must provide assistance. Hopefully, there will be happy uncles to evaluate things to help ensure the China " alt 6 (reform and openness)" policy, and to uphold and spread justice rights ( alt 7 ).

Interestingly, the English word "expiry" sounds like the Chinese " alt 8 " (the date for citizen dispatch). The English "expiry" looks like the English "empire alt 9 ". Unfortunately, the English word "expiry" has been misunderstood as the "ending date" or "valid till". One must realize the truth that " alt 10 the past expiry thing is as valid as usual".

In year 2003, the author returned to the China dispatching unit to work from the San Rafael city, Marin county, California state at San Francisco Bay. There was a 1979-1983 mining 792 class reunion after 20 years. There was an international symposium in Changsha. The author reviewed the year 1987 research thesis book, scanned the color photographs into computer files, scanned all the pages into computer files. This book is the third edition, with the addition of chapter 7, minor error correction, additional verification, and insertion of the 1987 errata into the scanned computer file pages. Chapter 7 was written in the United States of America after the postgraduate and postdoctoral research in Canada, the United States of America and China from year 1989 to 2012. It presents the science and engineering highlights and the applied research results on the basis of the original theories and conclusions. It represents a peak of mining science and technology modernization.

In the year 2003, a small international symposium, i.e., the 5th Asia Pacific Conference on Shock and Impact Loads on Structures. 13 - 14 November 2003, and three days later another small one, the 3rd Asia Pacific Specialty Conference on Fibre Reinforced Materials 17-18 November 2003, were held in Changsha city, Hunan province, China. The symposia were jointly organized by the Singapore NanYang Technological University School of Graduate Studies and Research and the Zhong Nan Mining College. The author presented a prepared article in the first symposium, and quickly prepared a second article in the next three days from the 1987 research thesis book with the aid the the computer scanner. With the elapse of 16 years from 1987 to 2003, the author knew that the 1987 thesis had reached the highest level of postgraduate research thesis. It climbed the peak of rock mechanics and strength of materials.

In year 2003, the author found out that the first submitted article of year 1987 in Sweden was later published in year 1991 [ref. Yi X., Sun Z., Ouchterlony F. and Stephansson O. 1991. Technical Note: Fracture toughness of Kallax gabbro and specimen size effect. In Int. J. Rock Mech. Min. Sci. Geomech. Abstr. Vol. 28, No. 2/3, pp. 219-223]. The second article in Chinese was submitted to the Journal of the work unit but got lost. The author also found that the third submitted article of year 1988 was later published in year 1990 [ref. Yi X. 1990. Fracture process zone (FPZ) in short rod specimens of Kallax gabbro. Chinese Journal of Rock Mechanics and Engineering. Vol. 8, No. 3, pp. 210-218 in Chinese with English abstract].

Back in time, the author defended the thesis book in July of year 1987 in Lulea of northern Sweden with unanimous approval by four colleagues. The author knew that at least two original discoveries in rock fracture mechanics were made, first, the size effect of fracture toughness and verification of the ISRM suggested testing method. and second, the fracture process zone size, acoustic emission and cohesion properties. But, the author did not know their significance in rock mechanics, mining engineering and in science and technology at large due to a lack of broad knowledge about the world. At that time, Sweden was unique in printing more than 100 copies of the thesis for worldwide complementary distribution free of charge. The thesis or subsequent paper publications never received any serious comment of evaluation except for a little light spoken remark on its insignificance. The Swedish side said that the Licentiate certificate was between the Master and Doctorate degrees. Nevertheless, the author was preparing the thesis in the end of year 1986, and met by chance the 1986 Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry professor Yuan T. Lee at the Stockholm international airport immediately after Nobel Prize ceremony. He was waiting to depart the airport. The author arrived at the stockholm airport from Lulea airport at a discount price for a standby ticket, i.e., waiting for an empty seat, to visit the 1983-1984 Beijing classmates in Stockholm and a visiting teacher from the same dispatching unit in Changsha. It was clear that the author had completed the China going abroad postgraduate research plan in the three and half years from 1983 to 1987.

Back in year 1986 in the large laborary hall of the Division of Rock Mechanics in Lulea, the author tried to ask questions regarding the INSTRON material testing machine. Once, a technician said "it is simple and easy once you know it". Although nobody would dispute this, it should be added that "what is simple and easy for one may be difficult and impossible for another". Unfortunately, most can not or would not do what is simple, easy and good, but have to do what is difficult, hard, impossible, damaging or destructive. Little did they know that the solution to the simple easy basics is the step to solve advanced and more difficult issues, otherwise, the easy and difficult issues will become impossible with time. Many would learn new technology or industry but have to move on to another new technology or industry, or to lose work once they know it. The word "technology" means to "teach take knowledge", and the word "knowledge" means alt 11 , i.e., to rely on the agricultural village one must know the rights". This is very much like the China's duty education policy, alt 12 , "Our Education Policy is to enable the educated to develop in virtue, wisdom, health and several aspects, to become the worker with socialist conscience and culture".

Besides the course work and research thesis, the author participated in amateur activities as much as possible, such as taking the bus in the winter and riding the bicycle in the summer to go shopping, taking photographs, writing diary and letters, trying skiing in winter, walking and running in summer, playing Ping Pong ball, playing the Swedish folk music with a second hand accordion, etc.. In the summer of year 1985, he took a tour of western Europe from Sweden on train and boat to England, Scotland back to southern Sweden on ship. It was clear that the Chinese water rice agriculture was superior to the dryland mechanized agriculture of Europe. In the year 1985 to 1986, the author read a few books in the library in Sweden to prepare for the English TOEFL test. For example, the Travel Notes of Marco Paolo English translation in the China Yuan dynasty. In another book, the author found the Newton Motto: "If given a stick and a fixed point in space, I can move the earth", and posted it on the wall of the office. It fits the Chinese manual farmers. He posted the wall a part of a statistics book quote "Experiment! Make it your motto day and night. Experiment, And it will lead you to the light.". This came from the ancient manual farms as well. The author read an English book on individualism, and posted a Chinese slogan on the wall: (fa yang ge ren zhu yi - carry on individualism) (ref. the book was likely by Bertrand Russell "Authority and Individualism" published in 1949). At that time, it was very much like the China compass guide " alt 13 " (independence, use own power to renew life, work with own hands and feet, abundant clothing and sufficient food). The English meaning of "individualism, I, free, dual, all, is" turned out to be the core of the Marx and Engels 1848 "Communist Manifesto - Manifesto of the Communist Party" (ref. it was against class antagonism barbarian). The author read this booklet in year 2004 in a public library in California state, USA (ref. the book "Das Kapital - The Capital" was also in the library). It is realized in year 2011, that the "communist" mainly refers to the dual place world citizen. But, it has often been misunderstood as two or more citizens.

In a warm summer, the author noticed the large moon in the sky, that remained large and bright in the sky from rise to set, as if watching from above. He pointed out that the moon in China looked smaller, became smaller as it rose from the horizon to the top of the sky. No body could explain the large moon at that time. It was also observed that there was severe static electricity on door knob and indoor chairs, especially in the dry winter. The northern light was like moving shiny cloud. These phenomema can be explained after understanding the movement of the earth and the moon in the solar system of the universe.

The author returned to China in July of 1987 to the dispatching unit to find that it had already changed title in year 1985. He asked and found out that his travel diary report in the form of a letter in 1984 was indeed published on the weekly report newspaper. It is worthy publishing again today. The author received a small red cover teacher certificate to work in the mining department for teaching, as student class consul, and co-supervisor for postgraduate research from year 1987 to 1989. Because the TOEFL score report of year 1986 was valid only for two years, with a score of 600 required by the top university school of graduate studies and research, the author applied for doctoral studies and research in the United States and Canada in year 1988. The TOEFL test was a verification for the author's English education in the eight years from year 1978 to 1986. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology school of graduate studies and research in USA quickly mailed to the author the admission letter. Later the Queen's University school of graduate studies and research of Canada provided doctoral admission letter and graduate fellowship financial assistance letter. That enabled the author to go abroad for the second time for advanced research. The author learned in year 2007 that the American Ohio State University school of mine, mining department, or the later mining and metallurgy department dissolved in year 1986 after more than hundred years of history since year 1873. The Beijing Iron and Steel Institute changed title in year 1988. It is unknown when the Swedish Lulea University mining and underground construction department merged into the civil engineering department.

Through world study and research, the author found from year 2002 to 2013 that the original meaning of mining is " alt 14 " from the book of Yi Jing [Zhou Yi] (ref. Fu Xi, Bao Yi, " alt 15 ", " alt 16 ", Chinese character " alt 17 ", Mineral alt 18 ). It is to understand clearly the rights.

The definition of the word of "mining", "mines", "metallurgy" etc. were subject to false understanding in the industrialization age, in order to dig down into the earth to provide tool, machinery and weapon to the agriculture, industry, and national [country] defense. Furthermore, the false understanding of the word "government" and "ministry" did cause the "upside down pyramid", i.e., for the government to go to the top, but mining mines and ministry to dig down into the earth (ref. capital skyscraper is a symbol of underground drift and pit, Bible message "at the tower of Babel GOD confused their languages"). However, to abolish countryside village bachelor elementary school, and to eliminate mining study and research from high institute or university, as well as from ministry, was to or would be to let the upside down pyramid of ministry, agriculture - industry, government, suspend in the air and sink down (ref. the normal order of the three academic degree "bachelor, doctor, master / license / licentiate" in rights duty study [education], "countryside village revolution base", alt 22 ). It would mean the deterioration and collapse of the people world and dear earth ball self nature (ref. mineral excavation method of "undercut caving alt 23 ").

The author observed the weather change and the internet website earthquakes reports in the California state of the United States of America from year 2004 to 2006 (ref. www,usgs.gov). By year 2006, the author realized in California that the 1987 research thesis has broad application to continent, peninsula and island geomechanics and earthquake phenomenon. From year 2007 to 2010, it was realized that the thesis solved the last issue of the fundamentals of rock mechanics and mechanics of materials, i.e., the true nature of the fracture process zone tensile cohesion strength and elastic modulus. For example, the hard Kallax gabbro has high cohesive strength but low deformation capacity due to the fracture process zone of micro cracks and micro joints, and the medium Bjorka marble has lower strength and larger deformation capacity due to an invisible fracture process zone of yielding grains that are uneven and peameable (note: the flourescent penetrant dye seeped into the grains, the gabbro grains are smaller and more even). The Short Rod Rock Fracture Toughness specimen was a mini model of underground excavation of mineral rock or ore deposits, except that the tensile load should be regarded as the compressive load underground. The experiment and measurement revealed the rock mechanics of underground excavation.

From year 2004 to 2006, the author found the Planet Finder Java Applet on the website www.lightandmatter.com. It shows the positions of the planets in the solar system at any time. The weather change in California state correlated with the planetary configuration and lineup. This is true but less obvious in the Ohio state. This reminds of the difficult situation of the earth, especially the continent of America, ocean shores, penisula, islands in the ocean. The Pacific Ocean and the Rocky Mountains on the west coast of America currently play an important role for the earth to rotate and move in the solar system. The 1987 thesis results have broad applications to conserve and cultivate the rock, the rarest dearest matter in the universe, in fields from comprehensive agriculture, mining science and technology, mineral engineering, geomechanics, to earth nature.

Whether by the Chinese education policy, the research policy to climb science peaks and overcome science difficult impasse, or by the world graduate studies and research thesis standard, the author's return to China from Sweden in year 1987 indicated the success of the socialism - communism with Chinese characteristics. The Marxism, Leninism and Mao ZeDong thought with the Deng Xiaoping reform and openness policies of China had worked out fine, being much better than the capital developed countries of the west. In other words, China was on the right path to modernization, especially in science and technology, by the end of the 20th century.

The author's research and writing from 1983 to 2013 in China, Sweden, Canada and United States have realize much more value of the early theses, which include also the 1983 undergraduate research and design thesis on powder ore drawing by a vibration machine and the shrinkage stope design (in Chinese, submitted to the mine department). It was realized in the year 2005 - 2007 that the 1993 reseach thesis has universal applications from earth to solar system. It overcame the last difficult impasse in system science and mechanics, and climbed the last peak of science and technology theory in year 1993. It achieved the modernization of science and technology for the justice rights.

Besides the semi-conductor computer machine, the experiments also indicated the intelligence of inorganic matter such as a rock, steel, wood, rubber pad that show certain specific response to loading. This shed light on the intelligence of the earth and the solar system as well as the meaning of human intelligence. The traditional man stands somewhere between the bird, tree and fish on the earth surface. The obvious correct intelligence of the man is to get up and sleep according to the sun rise and sun set observation with the aid of the moon light. The traditional man has mostly dealt with soil, water, plants, trees, animals, river sand and rocks. Today all man in the world is affected by the making and use of metal tool and other things made from the underground rocks and minerals. Although the man should not imitate material structure, but the modern society is equipped with machines and organizations to imitate the machine and material structure that have unpredictable responses.

The author's articles, theses and observations provided proof that the traditional Chinese character " alt 24 yi - ni " is an ecosystem of the comprehensive agriculture and earth nature. It can be achieved today and in the future just as it has been achieved in the past, such as in the 13th century. It is the earthly paradise, where the sufficient man, plant and bird lived healthy and happy longevity for the forever earth. The worldwide damage to the surname man and earth nature must stop. Each must extend uphold justice rights, correct positively mistaken error ( alt 25 ).

I have been a doctoral candidate at Division of Rock Mechanics, Department of Mining, Hogskolan i Lulea since year 1984, with residency at the Hogskolan from 1984 to 1987. I submitted and received the research thesis certificate and a page of the graduation licentiate certificate in year 1987. Since I already received the college research degree book certificate and honor certificate in 1983 in China. The Lulea college should have conferred to me the doctorate degree certificate. Residency is usually required for graduation, but, distance research thesis is accepted for the doctorate degree certificate.
